What is New BNA
« on: Sunday 07 April 13 17:44 BST (UK) »
In the 1861 census Samuel Ridgway and his wife Alice are in living in Bridge Street Warrington. They were both born in Warrington.

There daughter Alice is about 1 year old and according to the census was born in St John New BNA. On another site it is listed as St John BWA. Where on earth was she born?

This is a family of file cutters from Warrington. Samuel  is literate but Alice (Culm)  has to make her mark when they marry.  They got married in July August September of 1858.  Grandmother Alice Stott has some money as she employed 8 people but is always listed as a fustian cutter.

Why would Samuel and his family go out to New Brunswick and come back in 1861. Strangely enough I can't find any later record of them. Wonder if they emigrated and popped back for a visit with the baby?

Where is New Brunswick. Is it Canada? How can I check if they were out there? Are there any free records?  So many questions and so few answers!!!!!

You were right. From New Brunswick they ended up in Maine. Still filecutters. Alice ended up able to read and write. At last some of our family made good!! Thank you.
