I think you might need to try Hull History Centre?

A distant relative who lives in Hull, went to the Bereavement Service after numerous e-mails I sent to the bereavement service had been ignored to try to find out where some 1930s graves of our common ancestors were.  She was bluntly told it was nothing to do with them and she should go to the history centre.

I'd try Hull History Centre if I were you, I've always had good service from them.

That is very strange Lizzie....I and others I know have found the Bereavement Service to be very helpful and informative....you are the first person I know who has had a bad experience  :-\
What a shame.

Carol - My experience was restricted to not receiving replies to my e-mails.  It was my distant cousin and her friend who I thought had had the bad experience at the Bereavement Service offices.

However, I've just re-read her e-mail which says that she did get a reply "at last" which showed that having checked all the records i.e. Northern Eastern Western, Hedon Road and cremations they couldn't find any trace of the ancestors, they suggested the grave could be in a disused cemetery in Hull.  My distant cousin thinks the grave should be in Northern Cemetery her parents, (still alive who knew our mutual ancestors, well of course her father is also an ancestor) seem to remember the burials were there.  She got in touch regarding looking at the records but was told they only allow viewings on a Tuesday - when she is at work. ???  As she works for the council she asked if she could see the records on a different day but was told NO (as she put in her e-mail).  Hence she decided to try the new History Centre.

I wondered if you got any further.   I will be visiting the history center next week and also doing a bit of graveyard wandering - particularly Hedon Road.  if you want me to look for anything, I can try.

Try this e-mail address:

carol.tanner[at]hullcc.gov.uk (replacing [at] with @ ).  I've always found her very helpful.  She's the senior archivist, (well she was last time I contacted her) so even if she can't deal with your query herself, I'm sure she'll make sure you get a response.
