Irish immigrants to Dundee
« on: Sunday 07 April 13 09:33 BST (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone give me some help and advice? In tracing my family tree I have discovered my Great Great Grandfather and mother, PETER HART, AGNES FIELDS came from Ireland. They were we born about 1826, came to Scotland, were married in the county of Angus, 1850s and settled in Dundee. Moved to Buckhaven in Fife where their son had in turn settled. In census records and death certs, 1890s they just state Ireland as their place of birth, but I would dearly like to find out where even if only the county.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Christine

You would usually need a more detailed location than just 'Ireland' to start a search for early records like this. Ideally the name of the town, townland or parish this family lived. You also need to know the denomination of your Hall & Kerr families. The best place to try to find more clues is usually in records from where the family ended up.

Apparently Scotland Poor Law applications often included a parish of origin, and also certain Scottish births certs include date and place of marriage of parents, which can be useful if the marriage took place in Ireland.

Not all parishes have records available back as far as the 1820s.

Presumably you have their parents names from the marriage and death records.
