Richard Takle

Hi I am trying to trace Richard Takle prior to his arrival in the Colony Of Victoria, Australia in December 1853, he was a passenger on the "Hydrosie" which sailed out of Bombay, India.
I feel he may have been with the British Army there but have no proof of this, he was born in circa 1821 in England to James Takle & Sarah Land, he had a sister Mary baptised in Essex during 1828.   I can find no record of James Takle after 1828 or Sarah, not sure if the married but she appears to have married as her daughter Mary was also known as Ward when she married Robert Butson in Essex in 1849 before they migrated to Australia,   Can somebody help me with Richard Please??

1841 has a 20 yr old Richard Teakle as a soldier at Wellington Barracks, Westminster.

A possibility?




All Takles that are on 1841 are all in Somerset, none Essex, or indeed anywhere else.

(this may be Sarah from 1841 Census but I cant find a Marriage to Thomas QUARTLEY from 1861/1871/1881 Census)

EDIT unfortunately there seems to be a big gap in Baptisms in Bampton between 1812-1844 which is the period we require for the Takles.

Sarah/James may have Married and if you are right and he was in the Military baptised Children in Bampton and elsewhere.

It may be worth putting a new query on the Devon Board.

I followed James age 10 from 1841 census and so far have him 1871/1881 where he is down as born c 1832 in 1881 and c 1841 in 1871!

It is the correct man as in James/Eizabeth have with them Children Thomas 1867 and James 1871, both down as born Liverton, Devon (Tiverton)
Mary Jane Rowland c 1858 is with them also

Marriage of Robert Butson and Mary Ward was in Tiverton (Devon) Reg District, Dec 1848, 10 419
Not Essex.

A John LAND married same time to Maria LOCK. From 1851 Census he was born c 1823 Bampton.
