Purkis/s
« on: Wednesday 03 April 13 08:58 BST (UK) »
Hear I am again.

This time our problem is with Alice Florence Purkis/s born Dec Qtr 1865 in South Stoneham.
Who are Alice's parents? where did they come from?

Ancestry.com has what appears to be conficting information (based on other peoples family trees)
We are reluctant to just copy as others have done.

Alice later married George Henry Cavell in 1888 in Southampton.
Short of ordering the marriage certificate and waiting the 3 weeks for it to arrive.

Any help or suggestions for her parents etc would be magic.
Alice died in 1945.

Thanking you

I assume  you mean  1871 census  ?  as  if born in 1866   she wouldn't appear  on  an earlier census !

Freshwater is on the Isle of Wight. For some administrative purposes the Isle of Wight is classed as part of mainland Hampshire. Google Isle of Wight Family History Society. Then go to the BMD Index. There are a lot of Purkiss and other variations in the New Forest. Brockenhurst & Lyndhurst. Worth checking the 1871 Census there as well.

If the one born in Shirley is correct as living/born within the South Stoneham Reg District   then it looks like her brother Edward was baptised in 1862 in Shirley on 6 July 1862 with parents Edward and Ellen Purkiss

However the only way to be sure is to buy her birth or marriage cert.

Good luck Kay

Thanks Kay99,

Think you might be right, but yes the certificate will be the only way to confirm correct info.
Thanks everyone for your help.
