The births would be too recent to be online I would have thought if they were online....the only ones online I can see are up to 1903 which are too early.   I had been hoping to find if they had gravestones at Mountain View to see if they named any family but so far nothing... :(

There is a Gilbert Nicholls living in Vancouver South in 1949 - also at 2915 Forty Third Avenue (family home?!) with a Mrs W P Nicholls (must be Alice) and William Percy misspelt at W P Nicholas.

Gilbert seems to be a Medical Technician and there is also another G Nichols, Machinist, living with them (wife of Gilbert or another brother or sister?)

Gilbert's middle initial seems to be "P" and his wife seems to be called Alexa J.  They lived at 2929 Forty Third Avenue in 1962 with Graham and Dorothy at 2915 Forty Third Avenue

I am returning to this thread Google brought to my attention, to inform that Gilbert Percy Nicholls in question had been married earlier, possibly in 1939 or 1940, so Alexa J is not his first spouse. Gilbert's marriage with Elmi Helen Teppo was a society event that caught attention in the press. Unfortunately BC marriage archives are open only until 1932 so far.

Hello, I just stumbled across this website while looking up something else.  William Percy Nicholls was my grandfather.  I am the son of William's son Gilbert, which is also my first name.  I now live near Vancouver, BC.  I would be happy to tell you what I know about William Percy.  I also have many old photos.  I have always wanted to know more about my grandfather as dad never said much about him.  William was an avid collector of fine oil and water color paintings and I have 2 of them, one a painting of Queen Victoria and the other the interior of Well's Cathedral in Somerset, painted in 1814.  He owned a printing shop in Vancouver and owned a number of properties around Vancouver.  He gave dad and my uncle Grahame each a house as a wedding gift in the early 50s.  He was by today's standards, quite well off, but unfortunately he panicked at the start of WWII and sold most of his assets at a loss.  I know nothing about his background in England or if he had obtained any of his wealth there before leaving.  I always understood that he came from Cornwall.  He served in the Boer war and that's all I know about his war service.

I know absolutely nothing about family history of my grandfather and grandmother before them and would be interested to know.  I have a cup that was given to Marion Park's mother when Marion was born in Cathcart, Glasgow on May 23, 1883.

I grew up in Kerrisdale, Vancouver and my uncle Grahame lived 2 houses away until he passed away from a heart attack.  Dad and my uncle also both had waterfront cabins on the Sunshine Coast, north of Vancouver and the cabins were also gifted to them by my grandfather.  I lived in Victoria BC at the time of dad's death in 1995.  My mom, Alexa Jessie (nee Paterson), is 91 and now in a care home.

I only heard once in my life from mom that dad had a previous marriage and I never learned anything beyond that.  I always wondered what the story was behind it.

I would love to exchange more information.

Hello Gilbert! How lovely to welcome a new Family Member! I believe we are 2nd Cousins once removed as my GGrandmother, Florence was William Percsys Sister.
I do know quite a bit about the Family as I've been researching our Tree for about 3 Years.
William Percy (known as Percy?) was born in 1882 and Baptised 12/03/1882 when their address was 4  Beswick Rd, Walthamstow . I think you've been told Cornwall rather than Cornhill?
There were 4 Children - my GGrandmother, Florence was the eldest born 1881 and 2 younger Siblings, Walter born 1884, and Theresa born 1886.
I have them on the 1891 Census living at Elmsdale Rd, Walthamstow and on the 1901 at 3 The Pavement, George Lane, Woodford where their Mother, Mary Jane was working as The Manageress of a Cigar Business which I believe was owned by Wiliams Brother, John Alexander.
I think William/Percy emigrated to Vancouver c1911, initially on his own. I don't know what made him go to Canada?
I have Grahame born 1909 in Scotland and your Dad, Gilbert born 1912 in Vancouver?  Did Grahame have Children?
I have found some records of their life in Canada using my Ancestry subscription.
My Mum, Doreen (Florence's Grandaughter) was born in 1929 so is 85 now (with memory problems) so never met William - but it was her that told me about Williams emigration and his 2 Boys, Gilbert and Grahame.
Via this Site I found another relative, Nigel Rixon, who is Theresa's GGrandson. I shall email him and tell him about you! My email address is *
There's probably a lot more information that we can swap.
I've added you to the Family Tree now :)
Happy New Year!
Diane x
