Wilson Family - 1768 - 1825
« on: Sunday 31 March 13 20:09 BST (UK) »
After going on a 'Wild goose' chase all over England, looking for my Wilson family I have recently had a tip that the family originated in Scotland!!

What I have is, please bear with me: William Wilson born 1768 who married a Christian/Christine? Anderson born 1770. Archibald Wilson born 1800 who married a Susannah McBean born 1801. William Wilson born 1824 who married a Ellen Gordon born 1825.

Sorry for such oblique information but that is all I have been provided with.

Is there anyone who can help me

If I was you, I'd start by looking at the census and seeing if any of the couples you mention were around in 1851, which is the first census when people gave their place of birth. That will give you a location on which to base your search, unless they were in England when it will probably just say Scotland.

You can download OPR pages for births and marriages on ScotlandsPeople, but as it's a pay to view site it's a good idea to use FamilySearch to narrrow the field down so you know what you're looking for on ScotlandsPeople.

Where did you get the dates from, by the way? I would expected dates to have a location with them. Do you know the locations?
AYRSHIRE - Strachan, McCrae, Haddow, Haggerty, Neilson, Alexander
ABERDEENSHIRE (Cruden and Longside) - Fraser, Hay, Logan, Hutcheon or Hutchison, Sangster
YORKSHIRE (Worsbrough) - Green, Oxley, Firth, Cox, Rock
YORKSHIRE (Royston and Carlton) - Senior, Simpson, Roydhouse, Hattersley

Hi

I sympathise with you for having Scottish Wilsons - a bit like Welsh Jones (I have both!).  Anyway, here's a possible McBean/Wilson marriage in 1820 in Aberdeen:

It looks as if Christian Anderson and William were also in the Aberdeen area. There's a record of  Family Search for a baptism of a son, James, to them on 19 June 1792, St Nicholas, Aberdeen.

Thank you all,very much.

I got my original information from a second cousin who lives in South Africa. He said the original information came from another distant relative's family history, but with no other information!

RootsChat members are brilliant.

Once again

Thank you

Hi:

I am WIlliam Wilson and Christian Anderson's 4 x great grandson through their son Archibald, his son Arthur, his son William W.G., his son William H. and his daughter Mona (all WIlsons).
If there is anything specific you need to know, perhaps I can help if you can provide me with details.
