The White Hart Pub (Stoneleigh)

Does anyone know if there are any records of pubs in Stoneleigh? 

A relative of mine (in the mid to late 1700s) was meant to be the landlord of the White Hart but it has formed part of a document that I have received from a family member from a relative that did some family history research in the 1950s and between us we have already proven it wrong several times over.   

As far as I can see the pub doesn't exist now or anything remotely like it.  It would help even if I could show that it ever existed.

Hi Ruth.

There is a Pub called The White Hart at Ufton near Southam it is probably about 15 miles from Stonleigh.

One of the potential wives that the link was meant to come through came from Southam so that could Miss Stalworth instead of Miss Soden..... it was a choice of two women that could have been connected to the Pub

As far as I am aware, there has never been a pub in Stoneleigh village. The village was owned by the Leigh family and I understand they did not allow the sale of alcohol. The only place where it is sold today is the village club.
However Stoneleigh parish was/is much larger than the village and the pub you mention may have existed at one time in one of the surrounding villages -though I'm not aware of one locally with that name.

Family members it the area have said that Stoneleigh has been dry for a while, which is why I wanted to check.   It is possible that its just wrong but the fact that the pub has been named must mean something.  The one in Ufton is worth looking at

The family were supposed to have connections to Lord Leigh's estate/possibly worked on the Estate but I have found no evidence of the same

I am going to the Warwick Archives on Tuesday I will see if there is a list of Landlords for the Ufton Pub.There is probably a book on the White Hart.I am quite sure its the right pub in fact if you Google it you will see all about it.You could try the 1841 census and find someone living in Ufton it might say Parish of Stoneleigh.

That would be wonderful if you could.  It may help solve a mystery that's been rocking around from when the research was done in 1957/58.  Thank you

I have a cousin who married a person whos parents or uncle used to keep the White Hart arround the 1950's or 60's.I used to play dominoes and darts there in the early seventies they were in our league.Ive had quite a few meals there as well lovely old pub.

I googled some images and it does look lovely - with fantastic views as well.

(Just hope there is some way of finding out if it is connected to me now.... )
