Elizabeth Pole nee Sewell
« on: Thursday 28 March 13 16:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to find out what happened to my 2 x Gt Grandmother. She was Elizabeth Sewell b.1810 in Narborough,Leicestershire . She married John Pole Nov 1835 when their only son Richard was also born . Elizabeth dosn't appear on any of the census. Her son Richard is on the 1841 census with his aunt and Uncle Alfred and Mary Clarke(nee Pole) in Thorpeacre. In 1851 Richard is with the Sewell family in Narborough. (This is his mother's brother William Sewell's family.)
I thought I had found her death in 1838 but when I got the certificate it turned out to be her mother-in-law, also called Elizabeth Pole maiden name Elizabeth Horobing.
Is there anyone out there researching the Sewell family or does anyone have any idea where to look next.
      Thanks
Yvon-3

Hi Yvon-3

You say Richard was their only son, and I do I see Richard's christening on Family Search, in Belgrave.

I also see the Christening of a Frederick POLE, Narborough on 10 July  1842, who was born 7 Jun 1839. Parents: John & Elizabeth POLE. This child lived past his birth and appears to be a sibling of Richard?

1851: Bridge Street, Huncote, Leicestershire
HO107/  Piece 2081 / Folio 345 / Pg4
Head: John SEWELL 38, P.W.K. Woolen, b Huncote
Wife: Sarah SEWELL 40, b Huncote
Son: Joseph SEWELL 12, P.W.K. Woolen, b Huncote
Dau: Harriot SEWELL 10, Scholar, b Huncote
Dau: Elizabeth SEWELL 8, Scholar, b Huncote
Son: Richard SEWELL 4, b Huncote
Dau: Ann SEWELL 2, b Huncote
Nephew: Frederick POLE 12, P.W.K. Woolen, b Belgrave, Leic.

Perhaps you have been  aware of Frederick in the past,  however? As someone with what appears to be your same first name has noted the transcript, 3 yrs ago?

I have a feeling this may be the lad in 1841, maybe Martha Snr is is gran? :

Mt Pleasant, Hamlet of Huncote, Parish of Narborough, Leicestershire
HO107/ Piece 602/ Book 13/Folio 5 /pg3
Martha SEWELL 60, Dress Maker - Y
Martha SEEWLL 20, D.M. -  Y
Frederick POOL 3 - Y
(Note: the Mt Pleasant Address' come after those for Bridge Street)

Do you have any information on the father John POLE?

But from the above,  presumably Elizabeth was alive on 7 Jun 1839 at least for Frederick's birth and may or may not have been deceased by Census 1841.

Cheers

I think Elizabeth didn't die until she was an old woman!  Her sons being with other relatives in the Census doesn't mean they lived at that address all the time (or if they did, that mother had given them up or abandonded them) as the Census is just a snapshot of a dwelling's human configuration on one night!

Just found this :
FindaGrave:
http://shrinkalink.com/62881
Elizabeth POLE, buried 1 Jan 1896, All Saints Churchyard, Narborough

YOB on this database is given as 1811. Lots of SEWELL's in same burial yard. There are 4 POOLs but not more POLEs.

That looks like a good possibility for 1841 Willsy  ;D.... I can't get any lead on the 1881 though, can you?

Cheers
