Samuel Franklin
« on: Wednesday 27 March 13 22:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,
Seeking some help to further my research into my Franklin Family.
Reading over the years about Benjamin Franklin although American, his family originated from England.
So wondering if my Franklins are possibly from same line. I know its a long shot, but would still like to know  a little more on them if possible.
My earliest Franklin and moving forward on male line is ....

Samuel Franklin born Jan 3, 1745 in Derby, Derbyshire.

Samuel Franklin born 1784, Oxford, Oxfordshire. Died June 12,1860. Wife - Euphemia ( nee Davis ).

John Franklin born Aug 1, 1822 in Airds, Campbelltown, Sydney . Australia. Died - Aug 19, 1908.
Wife - Mary Ann ( nee Cooley ).

John Lunt Franklin born July 20, 1846 in Airds, Campbelltown, Australia.
Died : July 27, 1926.
Wife - Louisa Biffin.
2nd wife - Jane Biffin ( sister of Louisa ).

I have more info, but would rather find earlier records. I have nothing further on the 1st Samuel or who he married. I think there is a dispute on some sites that the 1st Samuels wife was Sarah ? Others say another name.
It would be a bonus if Ben comes from this family, I know there is definitely A Samuel or 2 in his family.
Help much appreciated.
Thank you,
Robyn

PS... I have reposted this in Derbyshire. So any info that maybe found in this post is for Samuel of Oxfordshire... Please.

Thank you,

Robyn

Thanks carole,

I did repost in Derbyshire only because 2 of my Samuels are from Derbyshire and the other Oxfordshire. Was wanting info on both those from those areas.
Will have to rephrase my info.
Sorry,

Robyn

Hi Robyn, You might be asking this in the wrong place.

Many people are already working on the case of Benjamin Franklin's origins. Apparently the US has some statute to preserve everything to do with him and some want his body exhumed so they can do DNA tests! Until they make a breakthrough though you may have to settle for trying to work out if you are linked to any of the existing known Franklin lines; there seems to be one in the Minchinhampton, Gloucs area.

You should find out more if you join this project:-

http://trackingyourroots.com/FranklinGenetics/

Its DNA results are below and the Gloucs group is labeled "FY13".

As Benjamin Franklins(US President), father originated in Ecton, Nothants, you may need to start there. ;)

Good luck.

Thanks for the links. I am not obsessed with finding if I am related to Benjamin Franklin. I actually just thought , something might fall into place along the way up through the ancestors. Would be a great find though.
Thank you for the links, I will definitely check them out though.
More interested in the line and what I can find, Benjamin or not :-)
But will most certainly look this all up.

Thank you all ,

Robyn
