Newbury P.S.A.

One of my ancestors was a bit of an enigma in that he was a Primitive Methodist preacher as a young man and later on was the landlord of the Anchor in Northbrook St., Newbury.

He died in 1928 and his obituary in the Newbury Weekly News says ".. he scarcely missed a Sunday at the PSA." There was also a wreath from the Newbury PSA.

Does anyone know what this was or is as despite extensive research I am none the wiser.

I now know that it is the Pleasant Sunday Afternoon movement so does anyone know anything about that?

Thank you for that. I did subsequently Google the PSA hoping that I might find something about the Newbury branch. I think that will have to wait now until I visit Newbury library or the Record Office in Reading.

The Reading Mercury newspaper has a short report on the proceedings of Newbury P.S.A. Society in the 1901 22nd June edition, which mentions the president, Rev E.H. Titchmarsh.  It's likely the Newbury Weekly News of a near date may carry a more extensive report.
