Peter Lingley
« on: Monday 25 March 13 16:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I have a question.

Could anyone please tell me if the Peter Lingley, in my tree, is the same one that had the town of Lingley named after him in New Brunswick, Canada.

The info I have gleaned so far is:-
my 4xGreat Grandmother's sister was Mary Monk Hayter b. 25 Jul 1799 - d. 23 Feb 1887.
Mary married Abraham Lingley on 7 Feb 1825 in St., John, New Brunswick.

Abraham Lingley's father was Peter Lingley 22 Feb 1769 USA - 25 Feb 1861, Westfield, New Brunswick, Canada.
Abraham's mother was Mary Day 1774 - Mar 1861 Westfield, New Brunswick, Canada.

Many thanks,
Ruth

A quick google of Lingley, New Brunswick takes you to the Provincal Archives of New Brunswick which states....

Located 3.93 km NNW of Westfield: Westfield Parish, Kings County: named for Peter Lingley (c1768-1861), a Loyalist from New York who arrived in the region in 1783: Lingley was also a station on the Canadian Pacific Railway: now within Westfield.

There is a fair bit of information on this family on the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick site, especially the newspaper stats at http://archives.gnb.ca/Search/NewspaperVitalStats/FullText.aspx?culture=en-CA
Good luck,
