Help with READ family please
« on: Sunday 24 March 13 10:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,
I have a George Morgan Read who was baptised 25/12/1837 at St Mary Abbot Church Kensington to William and Grace Read.  Williams occupation was a Wax Chandler. Other children I can find who appear to be born to this same couple (William and Grace and occupation Wax Chandler) are

Frances Emily Read 24/10/1832
William Read 6/4/1834
Elizabeth Read baptised 14/2/1836
Sarah Ellen Read 6/11/1840
Henry Read baptised 23/1/1843
Arabella Read baptised 28/3/1852 ?

I cannot find a marriage for William and Grace or the family in a census together.

George Morgan Read married in  Barraboo Hills,Victoria Australia 3/6/1861 His marriage certificate has William Read and Grace Morgan as parents. I do not know when he arrived in Australia.

There is another family of Reads in Hayes Middlesex 1851 but this does not seem to be the family.

Any help with this family in England would be very much appreciated as I do not seem to be getting anywhere.
 Kind regards
mariac

Hi

Agree it all appears to tie into the 1851 family in Hayes:

1851: Yeading, Hayes, (Uxbridge) Middlesex
HO107 / Piece: 1697 / Folio: 520 / Pg33
Head: William READ 46 Inkeeper, b Hensbridge, Somerset
Wife: Grace READ 36, b Kensington, Middlesex
Dau: Eliz'th  READ 14, b Kensington, Middlesex
Son: George READ 12, b Kensington, Middlesex
Dau: Sraha READ 9, b Kensington, Middlesex
Dau: Grace READ 2, b Hayes, Middlesex
Son: Charles READ 1 mth, b Hayes, Middlesex
Sister-in-Law: Honor MEARS 34, mar, Railway Servant, b Kensington, Middlesex

I suspect they have been discounted because William occupation is Innkeeper and on Charles Edmund's baptism the occupation is Licensed Victualler, not Wax Chandler.    I would say he was both - not uncommon.

Cheers

There is a marriage in Kensington 12 November 1831 between William Read & Grace Fussell.  This would tie in with those Kensington baptisms.

ADDED  It would not suprise me if George Morgan Read assumed that his mothers maiden name was Morgan.   :-\
