PARRY FAMILY - Holyhead
« on: Tuesday 07 June 05 05:09 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I would appreciate any information on PARRYs from Holyhead.  I am particularly interested in Richard PARRY, who was born there some time between 1795 and 1808.  Unfortunately I have no more information regarding him until 1826, when he was married in Liverpool to Margaret ROBERTS.  His occupation was Joiner.

Many thanks

Hi Filz,
I don't know if this is relevant - my GGgrandfather, David Parry, was born abt. 1793 in Llanfair-yn-Neubwll, Anglesey (abt. 5 miles from Holyhead). I know nothing about his ancestors or siblings.

He married Elinor Davies on Oct 1, 1827, they had at least 9 children and he died in early 1875 aged 82. He seems to have lived in Llanfair-yn-Neubwll all his life.

Good Luck with your search.

Hi dragonT

Many thanks for your message.  Richard and David could well have been brothers.  I guess we may never know for sure.

Do you, by any chance, have any details of David's birth/christening?  As you can see, to date I don't know where or when Richard was born, but they may both appear on some parish register, which could give us a clue as to whether they were related.

Do you know the names of his children?  Perhaps there are some names in common with those of Richard's children.  As far as I can tell, Richard's children were Margaret, Louisa, Laura, Richard and John (don't you wish they had been called something unusual - much easier to trace!)

Best wishes

Hi there...

As it happens I am researching my own Parry family in Holyhead. The problem is there are an awful lot of John and Richard Parry's in Anglesey... Parry is a very common name there!

I did find your family in the English census though. There are two versions of Richard's DOB - 1801 and 1805 depending on the census. Laura was born 1836, Louisa 1837, Richard 1839 and John 1849.

Now I can't find any direct links back to Holyhead as Richard was not living there in the census's we have online - he was in Liverpool.

I can trace my Parry's back to a John Parry born 1814 in Llantrisant,a shoemaker whose son Robert was in Summerhill Terrace in Holyhead in 1871 census. Intriguingly, there was a Richard Parry born around 1800 and married to an Ellen in the same street and there are Roberts in the same street as well. Now these could all be completely unrelated as the names are all very common. The names tend to get passed down, so my lot are all Roberts John's and Williams.

I would be interested to know if you got any more information about your Parry's or if anyone else  knows of my personal Parry's!

Lynn

Hi Lynn and DragonT

Sorry I have been so long in replying - got a bit distracted by other things.

Thank you both for your replies.  I'll keep the details in case I track anything else down.

Yes, it is very confusing as everyone seems to have similar names.  Thanks Lynn, I also have details of my Parry family from the Liverpool census and indeed I have found christenings in lists from St Peter Church Street in Liverpool.

But once I get to Holyhead it is a different story.

Good luck with you research and if I discover anything I'll certainly be in touch - but don't hold your breath!

Very best wishes

All of these names sound very familiar. My great great grandfather was called Walter muller 15 from Germany changed to miller on arrival. He was adopted by a vicar in Holyhead of the name parry. Hence my relative changed his name to William Parry born 1826 married a Mary evans. All of their kiddies were parry’s then changed to parry miller. Desperate to find the real story of my German ancestor but also on my great grandmothers side . Kate Ellen parry was daughter of Miriam parry born llandwrog but for (Kate born llandwrog) but for some reason they came back to Anglesey . Miriam parry was born roughly 1844 I was trying to see if this maybe the same Miriam as mentioned. Btw my great great grandfather also had a richard parry as a son. So I wonder if the Vicky who adopted him was maybe a richard parry also??
