Trying to find Annie Maria Horner COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 20 March 13 21:16 GMT (UK) »
Ann Maria Williams was born in England on 7 December 1882. My mother told me she married a Mr Horner and a Mr Braithwaite.  My mother's cousin said Mr Horner was Harry and they had a son also Harry. She married a Henry Clarke Braithwaite on 15 October 1906 but was called Annie Maria. Mr Braithwaite in the 1911 census said he was a widower.

However, I found a passenger list showing a William Hy Horner coachman, Mrs Horner (no initials) and Hy Horner infant sailing to New Zealand on 18 September 1908. I have also traced WHH in the 1901 census with a wife and daughter both of whom died in 1907. I cannot find a marriage for WHH and Annie before they emigrated. I have found them in the NZ electoral rolls from 1911 to 1938. The one for 1946 says Annie Maria Horner is a widow at 20 Wynyard Street, Auckland and this is repeated in the 1949 rolls. I cannot trace her after that date. Her husband died in 1944 and her son Harry died on 18 September 1985 (date of birth 30 April 1908 just before emigration) and his wife Thelma Gladys died on 2 January 1989.I have found their cremation records.

Harry had 2 children:
•   (*) born circa 1946 (you can only search for births more than 100 years ago). I traced him and his wife (*)in the electoral rolls up to 1981 at 32 St Edmund Cresent, Porrirua, Wellington
•   (*) born circa 1951. I traced him to 1978. I found a (*) solicitor at Ohangai Road, Hawera, Waitotara, Taranaki in 1978 and 1981 but am not convinced he is the same person.

I have searched the NZ online deaths records but there is no trace of an (*)from 1949 onwards. Also tried using the Braithwaite or Williams surnames without success.  I cannot search for her marrying again as a marriage must be at least 80 years ago. I have also searched the online cemetery records but no luck.

Has anyone any ideas as to how I might find her death entry? How might I find either of Harry's 2 children who hopefully are still living? I have tried the NZ White Pages telephone directory but they are not listed.

Hello

  ... and welcome.

I have a feeling that the following may be the death of Annie (Ann) Maria (but will do some further looking just to make sure.)
[I can see a possible re-marriage for a Ann Maria HORNER following the death of her husband (Horner).   Not able to put details of this NZ marriage in this thread as to do so, contravenes our NZ BDM laws. ]

NZ Death

1959 - HOLT - Ann Maria - aged 78 years   [bc 1881 ]

Will see if there's a cemetery record.

   ~  Lu

[PS  You'll need to remove the names and details you've given of the persons born 1946 and 1951 as it's very possible these men are still living.  ]

The 1949 Auckland Central Supplementary Electoral Roll shows >

HOLT - Ann Maria - 20 Wynyard Street - married

and

HOLT - James - A.H.B.* employee ... also at 20 Wynyard Street.

[^  Can confirm that this James, was her new husband.     * A.H.B. may refer to Auckland Harbour Board (employee) ? ]

Thanks for your replies. A brilliant result. I have spent years trying to find out what happened to Annie and Harry and was foxed by him being William Henry. Perhaps you can PM me regarding the marriage date. I would be interested to learn how you were able to find it.

You suggest that I should remove the details of the 2 people who could still be living. the details I obtained from the electoral rolls are in the public domain and my suggested dates of birth are guesstimates.

Any way of contacting the 2 sons of Harry?

Are you in NZ?

Peter
