William & Brittania Walker, Middlesex, England
« on: Wednesday 20 March 13 10:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am fairly sure the above are my 2nd G Grandparents, William Walker born abt 1833 at Stepney, Middlesex, England and Brittania Walker born abt 1837 at Bethnal Green according to the 1871 Census they have a son Edward born abt 1862 at Poplar, Middlesex, (my G Grandfather) which is the only one I can find that's about right with Father's name and marriage certificate of Edward and Frances Milson. I am unable to find a marriage for Brittania and William, not on Ancestry and I have looked and looked, they are also in an 1881 census, is there any way I can find out a marriage for them ?

Thank you

Kind regards

So you are saying that this marriage is definitely yours?

Marriages Sep 1884

Milson    Frances         West Ham    4a   48

Walker    Edward         W.Ham    4a   48

What info does the cert give, fathers name, his job, address they married from and the witnesses names. All would be needed to help us confirm that you are chasing the right parents  ;D

Hi Sorry if I missed any info out, here are the details from the marriage certificate, here they are in the Parish Church West Ham.

Date : 3 Aug 1884

Names : Edward Walker age 21  Bachelor  Occ: Labourer, Residence at time of marriage : West Ham
Father's Name : William Walker deceased.  Occ: Labourer.

Name: Frances Milson age 17  Spinster, no occ, Residence : West Ham
Father's Name : William Milson. Occ: labourer

Witnesses : william Milson, Elizabeth Garten (very faint on the surname there)

That's definitely him,  have census's with him and my Grandfather on, also my Grandfather's birth certificate.

Thank you, hope that makes it clearer, I have been searching for ages and I must be doing something wrong as I am not finding them, was almost certain William and brittania were them, but I may be wrong, esp if Edward marries Eliza Evans (as my Edward was married to Frances Milson).

kind regards and thank you so much for taking the time to help (I didn't know my Dad, so have had to start from the very beginning, with the information I have)

If William was a Cooper ( a trained occupation) on the 1871 and 81 censuses,I cannot see him being the same chap as the father on Edward's marriage cert where he is described as a deceased labourer.

If people were illegitimate they often invented a fathers name and said that he was deceased on their marriage cert.

Ok thank you, It's looking like I'm wrong, as my edward Walker was born abt 1863 and his father was a Labourer (there is an Edward Walker born in West Ham in the last 1/4 Oct-Nov-Dec 1862, in West Ham, I can't see any others here on Ancestry that 'fit' (my Father, his Father and Edward at his marriage and all other relations on my Father's mother's side have all been placed in the East End, mainly West Ham, I am getting confused with all this Middlesex, Essex malarky, I haven't been far out as Stepney,Poplar and Bethnal Green are in the East,  I may have to purchase another certificate. I have had very little info to go on, it's all been certificates so far. Thank you, again so sorry for being a pain :(
