Burial Records - Helmsley, North Yorkshire
« on: Sunday 17 March 13 21:41 GMT (UK) »
Searching for the burial place of John and Louisa Abbs which I believe is in Helmsley.

John passed away on 19 Mar 1888 aged 77
Louisa passed away in Jul 1872 aged 62

If somebody would be so kind to look up burial records or find these two elsewhere for these two I would be eternally grateful!

Kind Regards :)

Both deaths were registered in the Helmsley registration district - John's is mis-transcribed as Abbe

Helmsley RD covered a large area so you would need to know which area they were living in at the time of their deaths to find a burial

The 1871 & 1881 shows address as  Church St Kirby Moorside
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
Carlin (Ireland & Liverpool) Doughty & Wright (Liverpool) Dick & Park (Scotland & Liverpool)

They lived in Kirkbymooreside, The records for the graveyard in Kirkbymooreside doesn't have them in.
They were methodist if that helps locate them?

Whilst I can see, from GENUKI, that Kirbymoorside had a Methodist chapel, I cannot see that any records have been deposited at North Yorkshire Records Office.  I would suggest that you contact Rydale Family History Group, who will have local knowledge, and possibly point you in the right direction.

Good luck!
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Another possible source of information is the Kirbymoorside History Group - they do have a website which includes contact details.

Alternatively, contact the Methodist Minister in Kirbymoorside - again there is a website with contact details.

If you find the grave, let me know as I live in Helmsley and may be able to photograph the grave for you.

Hi,

According to his obituary he was Pastor of the Congregational Church at Kirbymoorside.  There was apparently a Congregational Chapel in Tinley Garth, Kirbymoorside which closed in 1950 so perhaps the records from there would be worth a look
