I am the GGG Grand son of James Chambers, the sponsor with his brother John, of John McDougall Stuart's expeditions in to the vast wilderness of then unknown South Australia/Northern Territory.
This is how Stuart no doubt met my GG Grand Mother, Elizabeth Chambers. My Mother ,who is a Member of the JMDS society in Adelaide tells me there is presently a debate amongst "decendants" or "relatives",call them what you will, that Stuart and Elizabeth were "an item",and some even are suggesting that they were secretly engaged. This all probably "pie in the sky" and impossible to research and prove one way or the other. Suffice to say JMDS did not marry Elizabeth or any one else, and so probably has no descendants from his time in South Australia.
Elizabeth married my GG Grand Father John Holden NEWMAN on 21/1/1862 and on his death married Edward John PEAKE on 26/6/1867.
