Charles Gray and family

Please could anyone help me with some information on my great great grandfather Charles Gray born about 1814 Christchurch Surrey.
The only record I can find for him and his family is the 1851 Census when they were living at 27 Eltham Street, St.Mary, Newington in Lambeth when he was shown as working as a plate glass factor.
I cannot find his birth, marriage or death records. After 1851 all the family ie. Charles, his wife Emily and children David, Emma and Henry all seem to have disappeared except for David, born about 1848, who had moved to Forest Hill without the rest of the famiy. I have also traced David on Censuses for 1861 to 1891

There is a possible death record......Charles Gray March q. 1856 Newington, 1d - 132

3 others but they are all registered in Newington but  before 1851

David would only be around  14 in 1861 who was he living with  any clues there

Many thanks for your reply. Regret I am unable to find any clues from David as in 1871 Census he was staying, without family, in Forest Hill lodgings.
1861 Census (my previous error) I am unable to find any family members including David.
I need to find out if Charles born about 1814 and Emily born 1824 are on any other Censuses as I cannot find them except for 1851, and would like also details of their marriage (first child Emma born about 1846) to ascertain Emily's maiden name which has so far prooved elusive.
Would appreciate any help and further ideas please.

When we cant find the obvious we need to look at the not so obvious , there could be many reasons unfortunately.   Gray is very common can be mis spelt ie. Grey.  None of the family may have been born where the 1851 census states, that was very common, I notice that Emma is 27 and Charles looks to be 37  ,10 years her senior, she could have been widowed young, and the children may not have been born as Gray, but as they were so young they went down under the step fathers name.

Also deaths as I have already suggested, life span could be short then, or remarriage for Emma, I have looked for that but can find none.

I am not suggesting that any of  the above is the case but all points need to be thought about carefully and persued.

I will continue to look around to see if I can come up with anything.

I see David Gray in the 1871 census is an unmarried lodger  a Printer born in Middx, London not Surrey,  as per the 1851

There is also a possible death record ,Emma Elizabeth Gray Dec q 1848 Newington 4 - 217 but as I said before there are lots of Gray families in that particular area by the looks so need to be careful

Can you please post the full references for David  in 1881 and 1891 as I cant seem to find him.

Thank you for your reply.
I think I will follow your suggestion and order a death certificate for Charles Gray to see what information that produces and I will be putting my reasearch on hold for the moment due to other commitments.

I think I have found David married with children living in Sydenham in 1891 on this he gives Walworth, Surrey as his place of birth, obviously he dident know exactly where he was born as we now have St. Georges, Surrey 51, London, Middx 71 and 91 Walworth, Surrey, so Surrey is looking the most likely at the moment.

I think this could be David's marriage
