What happened to George Dodd ?
« on: Sunday 10 March 13 13:20 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
George Dodd was born 1883 in Manchester.
As one of the 'Home Children' he was sent from a children's home in Manchester England, to the Marchmont Children's Home, Ontario Canada in 1895.
Reports from the home state he was living with a John Raine, in Verona 1895-96, and then with an Allan H Sinder, Verona 1897-1899.
Would somebody be able to look at the Canadian census records please to see if George stayed in Canada.

Thanks
KR

Hello.

You can search the 1901 and 1911 Canada censuses for free at this link .....

http://automatedgenealogy.com/

1906 for the prairie provinces is also available in case he moved there. The 1921 Canada census is due to be released later this year.

We search for information but it is up to the thread owner to verify that it is correct.

Not sure what this means vbain.

It says Births, but are these marriages of a George Dodd to an Ada Craggs or Annie Coats ?

This is a death of Allan Wesley Dodd, s/o George James Dodd and Ada Embury.  George's birthplace is given as Manchester.

This ties in with the 1911 census in Ontario for George and Ada with children Ila, Sylvester and Allan in Portland, Ontario.  Also in Portland in that year Allan Snider is enumerated.  If you check the 1901 census there is an Allan Snider with an adopted 16 year old son, George Snider, shown as born Ontario but census can be wrong.  Most likely George Dodd shown as Snider with the wrong birthplace.

Marriage of George Dodd, 22, of Verona, s/o George Dodd and Elizabeth Trotter, to Ada Embury, 18 of Verona, d/o James Embury and Elizabeth Scales.  Marriage 12 July 1906 Frontenac County.  Frm birth registrations of children the marriage took place in Kingston.

Hi Cosmac,

That's brilliant.

The death cert ties in, fathers name was given as George James, George's father was called James George Dodd.

Now that you mention the names Snider, I can see that the document I have does state Snider and not Sinder, the dot over the i is in the air.

Managed to find the census records for 1901 & 1911.

The only anomaly are the parents names that George gives on the marriage to Ada.
They should be James George Dodd and Sarah Endsor, his mother died in 1891 and his father remarried.

It's possible that George didn't want to be associated with his father for putting him in a home.

Really appreciate the help, gives me a lot to work on.
Many thanks

KR

The birth registration of 2 of George's children did include his middle name.

Was Elizabeth Trotter the 2nd wife of James George?
