John Nelson and Susan Churchill

Hi I am trying to find the parents of George Nelson born 1855 Melbourne Victoria. His parents stated on marriage cert in 1876 were John Nelson and Susan Churchill born in London John being a hotel keeper. I have had no luck in finding George birth certificate for Melbourne. Appreciate any help in tracing this family.

Hi, I really have struggled with this family, unable to find other siblings and I can only presume John and Susan were in Australia as George states he was born in Melbourne. However there is no record of his birth or parents on any records.

George Nelson b. 1851 Depart Victoria Arrive Sydney NSW 6th Nov 1876. Ship Pacific Hope Origin Denmark.  He seems to have been a member of the CREW as he is down as AB which I think means Able Seaman

Cannot see a birth for George to the parents John & Susan in Australia . Maybe he was born in UK?

Marriage for a John Horatio Nelson to Susan Spencer Churchill 27th August 1857. Parish St Marylebone, Westminster London.  Fathers names: Thomas Nelson & Charles Churchill.

To add a bit more to the marriage ballydw posted , Thomas Nelson and Charles Churchill were an 'Earl 'and a 'Lord' respectively.

Groom was a 'Clerk in Orders'

Hi thanks for helping. I did find this marriage however there is nor toon of a George being born approx 1855/56 so can't link it as yet. Mind you I would like to it would make researching this line a lot easier. Cheers Trena

Hi there,the George Nelson you talk of born 1855? is actually my great great grandfather.He was born Glasgow,Scotland to Jacob and Frances Nelson.He emigrated to Australia aboard the Auriga bound for Melbourne.George saw a notice in the newspaper that had an Agnes Rowett in Brisbane looking for her brother.Agnes had just arrived in Australia.George had been friends with the family in Scotland,so when he saw the notice he contacted Agnes.They married in Melbourne then moved to Romsey/Rochford in Victoria,then later moving to NSW.George lost a son and a brother in the Mount Kembla mine explosion of 1902.We have been researching the Nelsons as Mary McKinlay Nelson is my g grandmother..They are a bit of an elusive bunch having immigrated from Ireland to Scotland.They are Ulster Scots...Cheers
