Islington Gazette lookup
« on: Saturday 09 March 13 21:02 GMT (UK) »
I have discovered that my 3x g grandfather Charles William Fear (aka Hudson) died in Islington Workhouse Infirmary in April 1898.  He died after breaking his thigh bone and having congestion of the lungs after falling down some stairs.  There was an inquest which was reported in the Islington Gazette on 7 April 1898 and I would love to get hold of a copy of the article.  Having looked online, it looks like the Islington Local History Centre in Finsbury Library hold the microfiche of the Gazette.  I wonder if anyone is likely to be going there anytime soon and whether they would be prepared to find this article for me.  I would obviously reimburse any copying expenses incurred.  Look forward to any replies.  Kate

Hi Kate

I presume you've seen the 'paid research' page?

http://www.islington.gov.uk/islington/history-heritage/heritage_lhc/Pages/researchservice.aspx

Researchers in an around London who help out with look-ups are few and far between. The £15 represents good value for money. It would cost me between £6 and £8.90 in fares just to get to the library and home again depending on the time of day spent travelling.

I had seen that and you're right, it probably is the best way forward.  I was just posting on the off chance that someone may be going there anyway.  Its a real pain living miles from London sometimes - damn my parents for shipping us all down to the rural outreaches of England when all my roots are the other end of the country!

Give it a couple of days before sending anything off, some of the 'few' may not see this post until Monday or Tuesday.
