Oddly they seem to be calling themselves Smith in 1861!
1861 census: RG9/907/99/26.
Corn St, Witney
David SMITH Head Mar 38 Labourer Bourton
Esther do Wife Mar 39 Tadpole
James do Son 9 Curbridge
Charles do Son 4 Curbridge
Eliza do Daur 7mo Curbridge
By 1871 Esther was widowed and had reverted to Jones: RG10/1451/82/11. Esther Jones lived until 1913 and across the censuses her birthplace alternated between Haydon (in various spellings) and Tadpole (all now at the northern end of the sprawl of Swindon). Tadpole Farm at Haydon End is now about to be developed for housing.
