Do you know his parents names at all?  I will have a little look and see what I can find.  Think I can see him on the 1901/11 censuses in Swansea as you say, married to Margaret.

Hi Kat,

It's very kind of you to look. On his Marriage Cert to Margaret Rees he gives his father as, 'William Wilson, (Deceased) Occupation: Mason'. Masons would have moved around the country for work, & so I've looked around, but can't find him anywhere. And they are such common names too:-( My late father was one of William James & Margaret's sons, but he died in 1957, and so I've never been able to ask him). It's quite possible that William Wilson Snr died when William James Wilson was very young and his mother re-married, but I have no knowledge of this at all... :-((( I have a theory that his mother was an Alice, - because one of his 6 sons was initially registered as a girl, (Alice Rencella Wilson) & the gender was reassigned as a 'Clerical Error' 3 months later & he was re-named Ernest Rencella Wilson(!)

Romilly.

Having baptised Harry in Holloway on 11 June 1871, Reuben and Sarah seem to have moved to Stepney for a bit:
Baptism, St Dunstan & All Saints, Stepney
10 Nov 1872

William John JOHNSON, born 10 September 1872, son of Reuben (a cooper) and Sarah, of 4 Lea Place. [Likely birth reg: William John Johnson, Dec qtr 1872 Islington 1b 226]
They were then in Tottenham by the time they baptised Reuben James on 2 Aug 1874.

Many Thanks avm.

Istn't Family History a funny thing? I've been stuck with these Johnsons for ages... and suddenly it's all back on track!

And all thanks to fellow Rootschatters!!
