1861 Census
« on: Wednesday 06 March 13 08:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters
Not sure whether this is the right place to post. Am looking for Henry Moyses in 1861 Census. He was born 1840 in London, married 1869 in Lancashire. I have him in all Censuses except 1861 and 1911. (In London 1841 and 1851. And in Lancashire in 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901). He died in 1913 in Liverpool Workhouse. He had an older brother, Frederick, who married in Lancashire in 1867 and stayed in Lancashire until his death. I suspect Henry may have gone to Lancashire in the 1860s because his brother was there. Can anyone find him?

Kind regards
Trish

Hi Radcliff
Yes - that is the correct family! And I am thrilled because the two baptisms are of two of my grandmother's brothers and I have not been able to find this information - and it gives addresses as well!

Thank you so much Radcliff - you are a star!:)

Hiya Trish ...not trying to veer off on your research , but have a look at this marriage ...maybe this man was a relation as well - and he may have been the reason Henry and Frederick came to Liverpool
www.liverpoolhistoryprojects.co.uk
Roman Catholic Marriages
1852...... ref no 6  .........James Moyses to Elizabeth Healey at St Anne church

if you click on baptisms you will see 3 baptisms ...2 are 1897 HENRY MOYSEY and 1900 Joseph Moyses....parents are
Edward Moyses and his wife Mary ( Burns )..( one is spelt Moysey).are these your family ?
the other is to Robert Moysey and Elizabeth Greaves in 1895 ..their daughter was Katherine Moysey.? is Robert a relation ?

Hello,

Do you have Frederick in 1861? I can't see him either. I was wondering as he is a cook and Henry is a waiter, they could be together - perhaps in the forces or at sea?

Hi Garstonite
Thank you for helping! Edward Moyses is my grandmother's brother. He was the only one of my grandmother's siblings to marry a Catholic (an Irish girl, Mary Burns) but the rest of the family were
C of E.
Robert "Moysey" and James Moyses are, as far as I know, not related. But it is puzzling as to why the Moyses brothers moved from London to Lancashire.
Thank you for the link  - I was not aware of this site and it will no doubt prove useful for the occasional Catholics who appear in my tree!

Have a great day Garstonite!
Trish

Good clever thinking Heywood!

I know Frederick Moyses married in Birkenhead in 1867.His wife, Ann Edwards, was born in Cheshire. It is odd that I can find neither Frederick nor Henry Moyses in the 1861 Census. Mind you, it is a "difficult" name for family history research because it is recorded or transcribed incorrectly quite often (eg Moye/Moyser/Mages/Moses)

Thank you for your input. It is kind of you.

Trish
