Hi

Do you have Thomas & Ann on later census.  When and where were they born.

Rosie

Hi Rosie
Thank you for your reply, it is very much appreciated, unfortunately I have no further information on this family except for Matthew and his sister Rose in Au, his father Thomas at age 40 in the 1841 census was a coal dealer, Ann was also listed as being 40 in that census which places birth dates for them around the 1800 mark and also lists birthplaces as Y, the 3 children appear to be all born in Leeds, I suppose I assumed that the parents were born in that area, I do wish that I could offer more information.
Thanks again
Joy

I think the Brotherton family is the wrong family  >:(

I have since found the following baptisms -

Name: Thos Stead
Birth Date: 2 Dec 1800, Middleton Baptism Date: 18 Jan 1801
Parish: Rothwell, Holy Trinity
Father's Name: Matthew Stead
Mother's name: Rose Stead

Thomas' parents names are same as two of his children so this could be more than likely the correct one

Name: Matthew Stead
Parish: Thorner, St Peter
Baptism Date: 23 Nov 1823
Father's Name: Thomas Stead, cordwainer, Thorner
Mother's name: Ann Stead

Name: Rose Stead
Birth Date: 26 Jun 1830 Baptism Date: 8 Jul 1830
Parish: Chapel Allerton, St Matthew
Father's Name: Thomas Stead, shoe maker, Moor Allerton, Leeds
Mother's name: Anne Stead

How have you determined that Thomas married a Ann Ellis?
Personal family names: CONNELL (Leeds) RIMINGTON (Leeds, Skipton) RHODES (Leeds) PICKERSGILL (Kirklington, Masham, Leeds), DAWSON (Silsden, Bradford)
KNOWLSON (Thormanby) STURDY (Yorkshire) CARISS (Easingwold & Australia) RYMER (Easingwold) ASK(E) (Easingwold/York)

I have information on the family of Thomas Stead from notes written by Thomas' niece Emily Stead and other sources. Thomas's father Matthew was my great x3 grandfather.
I'm sure it's the same family. My great x2 aunt Emily Stead writes:

"....Thomas had two children - Matthew, who went to Australia, and we know no more of him, and Rose, who married Robert Dunhill, and also went to Australia".

Let me know if you want more of the Stead information I have.

Hello
I'm with Jay.
The Brotherton Thomas and Ann remain in that area having lots of children but no Mathew or Rose Stead .
That Thomas is a labourer born c 1800 at Healough, the son of a single woman Elizabeth Stead d of --- stead of Tadcaster labourer.
The other is Thomas shoemaker/cordwainer who disappears from the census in England after 1841 and is born Rothwell 21.12.1800 bapt 18.1.1801 and marries Ann Smith. Wit Sarah Steed and James Batley. You have Mathew ,Rose and James .There was also an Elizabeth 8.2.1827 bapt 8.4.1827 cordwainer of Alwoodly at Harewood.

His parents are Weslayen methodists Mathew Stead and Rose Upton . Another son William age 2 is baptised at the same time as Thomas in Rothwell. A third child Jane age 18 weeks is buried at Leeds St Peter 6.12.1815 .Address Quarry Hill.
The couple married at Bilton in Ansty 24.12.1798 .He was from Harewood and signed ,she from Bilton and made cross. Wit william Bellerby and Ann Upton.

Mathew and Rose are both buried at St Peters Wesleyan chapel.
Rosy Stead 12.1.1824 age 43 years and Mathew 6.8.1826.
