teddesley street Walsall
« on: Tuesday 05 March 13 19:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I was wondering if anyone would know how I could find out who lived at 36 Teddesley Street Walsall in the 1920s or maybe a bit earlier.
I have a wedding picture and the address is on the back
thanks Susan

If you search for walsall archives, there should be a link for walsall familyhistory group. May be one of their members might recognise the couple. I almost feel i should know them as i was born in walsall but not the 1920's. I now the family history group i belong to do a mystery photo gallery. I don't know the walsall one offers its members and they may want you to join.

Hi I'm pretty sure that is a photo of my grandparents Rhoda and ? Frank or George Hicklin I don't know when they married or moved there but their first son Frank was born in 1908 and my mother Edith was born in 36 Teddesley St in 1920 and Rhoda lived there until the early 1960s I remember the house well Where did you find the photo I would be very interested to know more

Hi Gaynor,
The photo belonged to my mums side of the family, she was from Walsall. Ive looked up for you the marriage of Rhoda Price to Frank Hicklin was 1907 Walsall.
Have you anymore names in your tree, as neither of these are mentioned in mine
regards Sue

Hi Sue, I just came across this because I was looking up Teddesley Street so haven't really been researching family tree.  However, I know that Rhoda's mother was married 3 times, one of the other husbands was called Round and I could find the other name as I got something from the censuses a few years back.  Rhoda had several sisters, Polly, Clara, Lizzie and one called Hetty who died young.  Lizzie was married to Frederick Rose and they had one son Arthur.  The family came from Norton Canes and Brownhills.

I know less about the Hicklins - could be that was the link to your mother.  My grandfather died when my mother was only 18 months old, but there were at least 2 other Hicklin brothers and 2 sisters called Floss and Gertie.  I think the name Hicklin is quite common in Walsall.

Rhoda and Frank had four children - Frank, born 1908, Doris 1912, George born 1916 and my mother Edith born in 1920.  They all had children.

Be good to hear of any connection via your mother.  It's a lovely photo of the wedding - I can only just about recognise my grandmother as she was in her 70s when I was born and there are no photos of her in her young days, but Frank is very recognisable in my 2 uncles.

All the best, Gaynor
