Thanks for the welcome Pam and hi to everyone else too.

Don't know of any Matildas by the way, but before today all we had was Kezia's father's name and occupation.  We didn't know of any siblings at all.

Shanko - the witnesses on Keziah's marriage cert were William Mason (we assumed her father) and Charlotte Potter.  If you know of a brother William, I guess this could be him.  Potter isn't Charlotte Mason's married name is it ?

Back to work now, but we'll catch up with you later !

Rick.

There's definately something strange about Clayton street Lambeth.....

I've just seen another post on the London board with someone asking about a family that lived there in 1870's.....a Rose family I think......maybe they were the next-door neighbours to the Masons :)

Is it a very large street?

I'm beginning to think that Lambeth in 1861 is a bit like the Bermuda triangle......

Could it be that the local metalworkers association went on a family outing to Ireland that week? I have a family of tinsmiths/ironmongers of my own missing from Lambeth too.

Just before the men in white coats arrive......I checked the channel islands and Isle of Mann ???.....and they weren't hiding there. There were a couple of Masons visiting Guernsey from England but their first names didn't seem very connected.

Hi again folks - here are some answers to your questions from Jan and  some other information which may be of use:

Caroline Mary Hunter is her great grandmother - she married Henry Fowle.  Jan's aunt remembered that Caroline's mother was called Keziah and that they lived in Jonathan Street in Lambeth.

In 1901, William and Keziah Hunter are living at 28 Jonathan Street with their now married daughter and her husband Caroline and Henry Fowle.  Jan's grandfather Albert is one year old.  She doesn't have Caroline's birth certificate.

On their marriage certificate, William and Keziah are supposed to be of full age, but this doesn't match the census information for Keziah so she probably lied about her age.  She was probably born in either 1856 or 57.

We have never found Keziah prior to the 1881 census.  We've checked the IGI and trawled 1837online for Keziah's birth but haven't checked the BIVRI.

On Caroline's marriage certificate she gives her father's name as William Bryant Hunter.

William and Keziah's other children with approx dates were:

Marion (Mary) 76
Henry Thomas 80 (d82)
Ernest 83
Florence 86
Arnold 87
Bessie 90 (d94)
Katherine 96
Frederick 98
