What does this mean?

Hello,

I'm inquiring as to what this garbled text before the name "Robert McNeal" means. I have no idea what the raised "w" is for and I can't seem to decipher the rest of the letters. This strange text appears alongside the name "Robert McNeal" throughout this land deed.

I have attached the image, I'm not sure if this will work.

Yes, there is another name following Roberts the name is "James McTyre".

I think you have it there.

It could also be four separate men - Messrs Robert, McNeal, James, and McTyre. All could be surnames.  There's a punctuation mark between Robert and McNeal which is what made me think of this.

Of course you may already know if there are only two men from the rest of the document.

The punctuation mark is actually part of the M in McNeal and McTyre. I couldn't capture the linking line that well in the image.

Yes, I see that, the little curly bit of the M, but there is also a small dot just to the upper left of that, which is what I was lookng at, but of course you can see the whole document so this might be irrelevant if you know the names of the men from elsewhere on the page!  Perhaps that dot is just an ink splodge!
