Ever since "Heir Hunters" started on BBC1 the number of "Heir Hunting" companies has mushroomed. I've noticed that series 6 stated there were over 30. Now on series 7 it's over 40. Now most of the new people have just got an interest in the topic and are diving into the TS pool of unclaimed estates. Now apart from the occasional estate worth over one million which will have been very difficult to solve or found to be dead, the majority of the estates on that monthly Ytrasury list are pretty small so companies like my own just work on the newly-advertised cases.
Even on those cases, we are beginning to get tiny firms trying to work them and because often they do not know how to proceed we get the situation, as happened recently, where I have one of my case-managers visiting an heir and there is a phone call to the heir from someone trying to interfere with the discussion.
I know of one person working on her own who got contracts from a number of people on a case with a very common name and then found that the entire estate was worth under £1,000 and her fees would be about £12 in total.

I was surprised to discover that 'partial intestacy' one the other day.
My hubby said it sounds like a medical procedure  ;D

Where 2 of the beneficiaries of a mans will had died before he did.
I just presumed that their share would go to their heirs, not back into the estate.
They had to treat that portion of his estate as though he died intestate and find brothers/sisters/cousins etc.

We learn something new every day!

Just had to watch today's programme on the i-player as my recorder had missed the change of channel (Pope's inaugeration).

I thought the inclusion of the "spoiler" in yesterday's programme (re the Davenport outcome won't say more here) was really bad & totally unnecessary. The outcome though  :D

Oh Damn,I didn't know it hadn't taped HH- was going to settle down later with a coffee to watch it. It's not quite the same watching it perched on the edge of an office chair huddled over a 15inch computer screen!

Rosie,

Your telly is obviously cleverer then mine .....boo hoo  :'(

I'll have to wait till the series is repeated at some time in the future as mine didn't switch channels and record it.

Thanks for starting this topic.

After 16 years ( on my part)  recently with your members much valued help, I thought it was an opportunity to ask (via  the programme) if they could help.

They happily and freely accepted the challenge.

Due for viewing Wednesday 20th March....I have no idea what they have found, if anything....and after research between  1933 to 2012, can't wait to find out.

This is an opportunity for me to say 'Thank You'  to all the responses I received.

Well it looks like you had a lucky escape as the number of Hall's on the new line would take a lot of untangling.

It was nice to see a different slant to the heir hunters chase and good to see Northampton Records office - i went there several times a few years back, very helpful staff.
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
