 ???
Hello,
I am trying to find the birth, death and parents of Anthony Ferguson. The only thing I know about Anthony is he was married to Hannah Fletcher Saul on the 16.3.1908 in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. His age is given as 23. Anthony is a foundryman and the son of deceased metal carrier James. The witnesses are John Ferguson and Pollie _rood.
Anthony is not living with Hannah and their son in 1911. I have found a John Ferguson in 1911. He is living with Margaret and John Collins as stepson. A Margaret Ferguson married John Collins in 1900 in Middlesbrough. How can I prove or disprove these people are Anthony's family?
cheers

An Ancestry tree gives Anthony as the son of James Ferguson (1851-1888 Scarborough) and Margaret McGravey? (1854 Crossmalina, Mayo) with Margaret's 2nd husband as John Collins. There's also a son John Ferguson (born 1888).

Hello Aghadowey,
Thanks for your help. There are 2 trees on Ancestry for Anthony Ferguson. The 2ND Anthony was born in Durham in 1884 and has Anthony's father as Anthony with no mother. This Anthony has a brother John born in 1878. The 2ND tree for Anthony has him in the Gordon highlanders in WW1. WW1 records has Anthony married to Alice Moserop with daughters Ivy born 1907, Elsie born 1903 and Kathleen born 1901.
Is my Anthony a bigamist and has put his fathers name as James on his wedding certificate to Hannah to throw all of us off the trail.
confused

I've actually now found five family trees.

1) the one I mentioned earlier- lists parents as James Ferguson and Margaret (maiden name possibly McGravey)- has copy of marriage certificate which lists father as James Ferguson (deceased) metal carrier- as in your original post.

2) next one is for Anthony Cooper Ferguson with same wife (Hannah Fletcher Saul) but parents Anthony Alexander Ferguson & Elizabeth Lisle. Source of marriage to Hannah is marriage index (which does not prove his father was Anthony). Also seems to have census records, service records, etc.

3) next one also has Anthony's middle name Cooper and lists no parents but wife Hannah Fletcher Saul with only 2 children- Fanny, Anthony. Again, source for marriage is entry in marriage index.

4) next one lists Hannah & children but no parents. Source for marriage is index.

5) lastly, Anthony's father given as Anthony with 1901 census record (completely different than 1901 census record for Anthony in household of John Collins).

I see nothing to suggest Anthony was a bigamist. Tend to think 1st tree more accurate and other 4 have pinched details for your Anthony  :-\

Note: Anthony Ferguson married Hannah in 1908. Anthony C. Ferguson married Alice in 1913.

See what you think and let me know if I can help with more details.

Hello Aghadowey,
I think you have hit the nail on the head and there are 2 Anthony Ferguson's born around the same year and living in Middlesbrough in the late 1800s. I have looked in freebmd and discovered Anthony Cooper Ferguson born in Sunderland in 1884 and Anthony Ferguson born in Leeds in 1884. I can not find an Anthony born in Middlesbrough. If I was to get Anthony from Leeds birth certificate and found he was the son of James and Margaret do you think I can 100% say this is the husband of Hannah or I need to find a will or Margaret living with Anthony and Hannah to be that sure?
grateful,
NellieG
