SANDERS family - assistance / guidance required
« on: Sunday 03 March 13 03:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi list

I am wondering if someone could assist me in my research into my Sanders (could be Saunders) line

I know my Great Great Grandfather - Daniel Priest Sanders was born 8th October 1845 at Lashbrook in the parish of Thornbury. (parents were John Sanders and Eliza Priest)

John Sanders and Eliza Priest were married 19th July 1845 at the parish Church in Thornbury.
John Sanders was living at Cookbury and Eliza Priest in Thornbury.

John, Eliza and their three children - Daniel, William and Mary emigrated to Australia in 1855.

John Sanders parents i believe are John Sanders and Sussanah Daniel - (Sussanah may have remarried to a Jeffrey)
Eliza Priest parents are John Priest and Mary Dawe.

My problem has been connecting John Sanders married in 1845 to a birth from John Sanders and Sussanah Daniel.

Any assistance would be gratefully accepted

Thank you

Hello -- you have John's father's name from his marriage certificate 1845?

This is the couple you are considering for his parents:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N2JB-39Z
John Saunders + Susanna Daniel, married 1813 Milton Damerel, Devon.

Do you have info (e.g. John's death record in Australia) that gives his mother's name?

Same questions for Eliza re her parents' names.

There is this birth for a John Saunders son of John and Susanna in 1816 in Milton Damerel:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N54Z-W7H

Do you have an approx date of birth for John who married Eliza?
HILL, HOARE, BOND, SIBLY, Cornwall (Devon); DENNIS, PAGE, WHITBREAD, Essex; BARNARD, CASTLE, PONTON, Wiltshire; SANKEY, HORNE, YOUNG, Kent; COWDELL, Bermondsey; COOPER, SMITH, FALLOWELL, WILLEY, Notts; CAMPION, CARTER, CRADDOCK, KENNY, Northants; LITTLER, CORNER, Leicestershire; RUSHLAND, Lincolnshire; MORRISON, Ireland; COLLINS, ?; ... MONCK?

Hi Janey

Unfortunately both death certificates gave little information about parents
John died 9th May 1894 Father - John Mother - unknown
Eliza Priest died 26/08/1885 Father - John Priest Farmer

However on the immigration records for September 1855
John Saunders (not Sanders)  age 38 Native place Bradford parents John & Sussanah father dead mother living at Thornbury. A step brother - Samuel Jeffreys living in Melbourne.

Eliza Priest age 39 Native place - Thornbury Parents John & Mary Priest both dead.

Thanks
Garry

Susanna DANIEL married John SAUNDERS at Milton Damerel 29 Mar 1813. John SANDERS was buried at Thornbury 9 Oct 1819 aged 31.
A Susannah SANDERS married a John HOCKIN 7 Nov 1821 Thornbury. John was buried 6 Jun 1822 aged 28. Susanna HOCKIN then married Emmanuel JEFFERY 12 Jan 1825, also Thornbury.
This seems to coincide with this 1861 census entry:
Piece: RG9/1507 Folio: 54 Page: 1 Schedule: 3
Address: Chapel House, Thornbury
DANIEL John Head W 60   Agr Labourer b. Cookbury
JEFFERY Susan Sister W 69 Agr Labourer's Widow  b. Thornbury
SANDERS William Nephew Unm 47 Retired Servant b. Milton Damerel

In 1851, Emmanuel & Susanna JEFFERY were living in Thornbury.

A John SAUNDERS was baptised at Milton Damerel 19 May 1816, son of John (labourer) and Susana, abode, East Wonford.

To Dear DOB7 and Janey - Thank you for your assistance. It was the second marriage that confused me totally between Sussanna Sanders (Daniel) and John Hockin that I missed and threw my thought patterns out completely.
I sincerely thank you for sorting this out for me.
Regards
Garry
