I have been particlarly interested in the backdrop.
I have been told that the chevrons on the lower sleeve denote overseas service and that the backdrop is possibly Salonika, or Egypt and that it is likely that this was taken in 1918 prior to their return to England from Egypt, having previously been at Gallipoli. there is also a suggestion that the flag, top right, could be a Greek flag. It is certainly a photographers backdrop, but the real ground is rocky, so is certainly not taken in England.
