Newspaper Archives
« on: Saturday 02 March 13 10:37 GMT (UK) »
I happened to be browsing last night, looking for a link to a report on Coventry local history regarding a Rev George Tabberer and a Miss Marston of Coventry in 1884.
I came across several interesting reorts on Newspaper Archives, Lloyds weekly Dec 07 1884 regarding the pair.
When i clicked to read,a note popped up and told me i had read 1 report(i had not) and must register (no metion of cost) so i tried to register but the same message came up that i had read 1 report.
has any one any idea how i could read the reports.

You can search for free on either The British newspaper Archive and then buy a short subscription
http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/

Or search on Findmypast and then buy credits
http://www.findmypast.co.uk/

There are articles in numerous papers as it was quite a scandal, he was accused of bad language, drunkenness and an improper relationship with Mary MASTON

Have you checked to see if your local library is signed up to the Gale 19th century newspaper archive ? Here in Leeds you can access and search it from your home pc using your library card number. It also gives you access to the Times archive.

If your profile is up to date, then you may be out of luck with your local library

http://www.coventry.gov.uk/info/1063/libraries-online_information_resources/43/encyclopaedias_and_online_information

Doesn't look like they subscribe to the Gale Group.
