Gaudy/Goudi/Gowdey House, Crieff - Evacuation during WWII

Came to think of a name I've been hearing a lot during the years. My grandmother (lived in Glasgow) was evacuated and lived in a house with several other evacuated children from Glasgow in Crieff for some time during WWII. I have never seen how the name of the house is spelled, but judging from the pronunciation is should be something like Goudy/Gaudi House.

Ring any bells for anyone? Would be interesting to see some documentation on this house.

Gowrie House?
Valuation Rolls at Perth Archives or online at Ancestry may give a clue as to who was there and what it was being used for during the war.The Archives may have some evacuation records or at least know if such exist.

Hi,
There is a small mention in a newspaper of 1940 about the Duchess of Gloucester visiting Gowrie House hostel in Crieff in 1940 where 24 evacuees were residing.

Hi,

Am doing a bit of research for a friend - her father and uncle were evacuated from Glasgow to Crieff in WWII.  Her uncle can only remember it was a big house outside Crieff and the owner was either a GP or a JP.  Wondering if it could be this Gwydyr House?  The boys were John and James Sangster.  Cheers

Thanks for your reply! I haven't found any more info on the house since posting this, but I'll definitely ask my grandmother if the boys names rings any bells when I visit her this evening. I'll let you know if there might be some connection here.

My mother, her two sisters and Little brother were evacuated to Crieff.  45 years ago when I was 10 years old she took me to Scotland from Kent, we visited Crieff and she showed me the house they stayed in I remember it had a balcony at the front, and she said sometimes in the summer they would sleep out on the balcony.  She showed me the school they attended too.  After all these years I am visiting Crieff in September I wonder if I will be able to recognise that house or find it if it is even still there.
