Haworth/Taylor marriage record in Darwen
« on: Sunday 05 June 05 23:05 BST (UK) »
Martha Haworth was born Oct. 10, 1861 on High Street in Lower Darwen, daughter of Fielding Haworth and Mary Hacking. Fielding was a cotton spinner. I have the Hacking genealogy all worked out, but so far, not the Haworth genealogy. Martha Haworth married in ca. 1882-83 John Taylor, also of Lower Darwen, son of John Taylor and Ann ( Outram ) Gutteridge. I am searching for the marriage record of Martha Haworth and John Taylor and the family origins of Martha Haworth...especially her father, Fielding Haworth's, parents and family origins. Any help at all would be very much appreciated to provide me with some new leads to explore.
          Jean Mayo
Further note: Martha Haworth's death record in New Bedford, MA. names her father as Thomas Haworth, which I know from multiple sources is not so. So I am thinking that perhaps Thomas was his legal name and Fielding was his middle name that he used in every day life; or perhaps, more likely, one of Martha's children made a mistake and Thomas was actually Fielding's father. And on it goes!

Hi

A copy of their marriage cert will give you his fathers name and occupation which will confirm whether the IGI entry is the correct one

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1844

HACKING Mary HAWORTH Fielding Blackburn, St Mary the Virgin (Blackburn Cathedral) Blackburn CE12/6/498

The 1871 census shows him as 48 so b approx 1823 so this could be him from the IGI

Fielden <Haworth>
  Male

Christening:  03 APR 1823   Saint Paul, Blackburn, Lancashire, England

  Parents:
  Father:  Thomas Haworth
  Mother:  Margaret

I am a descendant of the Haworths at Newfield...Newfield farm....lower Darwen.
There is a fantastic site...called cotton town....which has black and white photographs of this farm...now demolished.
The council had tried to save the old building but it was deemed unsafe.
This is my lineage...
Me...Justine Haworth
Father George Haworth...hairdresser great harwood
Grandfather Thomas Haworth...youngest of  6 girls....great harwood
grt grandfather thomas Haworth...wife Jane Haworth (ireland)
grt grt grandfather john haworth = ann haworth at 94 newfield...farmer 15 acres

is this any connection to anyone elses HAWORTHS of lower Darwen...as said before....we were very prolific!!!
regards  Justine....now perth WA
