I'm trying to trace the roots of a family member who came from Waterford Ireland who was Catholic and supposedly had multiple brothers all who were Catholic priests. This made him the last in the family to carry our line in the family. He then later left around 1826 to come to Canada in search of land. All of our history back in Ireland is hard to find but I have reason to believe he may have been involved or his brothers with Edmund Ignatius Rice and one of this organizations in Waterford.
So I'm hoping to find more information about his activities and maybe if there were any documents dating back to the origins of the organizations that maybe could give us a clue to if any of my family members were involved.
Rice founded 2 organizations.
The Presentation Brothers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presentation_BrothersThe Brothers take three promises—poverty, chastity and obedience—and live together in small groups called "communities".
Congregation of Christian Brothers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congregation_of_Christian_Brothers"The Christian Brothers, as they are commonly known, chiefly work for the evangelisation and education of youth, but are involved in many ministries, especially with the poor. Their first school was opened in Waterford, Ireland, in 1802."
I was wondering if anyone knew if any documentation existed of members?
