My interest in Elijah stems from local history: I live in New Moston (on what was Dixon St, in fact!) and you probably know that, among his many other activities, Elijah helped form the Bridgewater Freehold Land Society in 1851, to provide allotments of land that would give voting rights to the owners or tenants. The parcel of land purchased (originally part of Chadderton) became New Moston. Elijah himself did not reside here until the 1860s, his last residence, Vine House, being an existing property, built on the site of an 18th century house that had suffered a major fire. The 19th century house still exists (pic attached) on what was formerly Ricketts St, now Parkfield Rd North. Elijah was certainly an interesting character, and I think we could do with a few more like him today! Cheers, Alan
