Great Day had on the 14th June,  we all left our Cemetery slightly bent over with a touch of backache!!

Hi, I think I may have found the grave of Elijah and Martha Dixon, buried 29/7/1876 and 7/6/1873 respectively. The dates seem about right (Elijah died on 26/7/1876), and Elijah's wife was named Martha, so it looks as though he has been incorrectly indexed as "Eliza". The grave is number 4077 in the "Unknowns" section - this is a link to the entry in the Manchester Burial Records:-

Thanks Alan for taking the time to post and to contact us through the project website.  We have added the mis-transcribe to our list which we will eventually be passing on to Manchester City Council Bereavement Services.  We agree whoever transcribed it has read the name as Eliza instead of Elijah.

The Dixon family vault is located on Non Conformist Plot 1 within Manchester General Cemetery which is the section to the right as you enter through the main gates from Rochdale Road.  We are confident we know the exact location of the vault and have identified one of the vault stones but unfortunately an inscribed memorial no longer exists.

Elijah Dixon is one of our "Notables" and we have a short biog on our website together with a picture which was digitally restored by one of our fellow Rootschatters.
