Manchester General Cemetery Transcription Project

Cancan has been number crunching and whilst I was just adding a paragraph to our website, I thought the information might be of interest here as well.

There are 96,456 burials recorded in the Burial Registers.  This does not include the 9,543 stillborns and 48 sets of still born twins bringing the total to 106,047.  This  figure also doesn't include the burials in the Church (Consecrated) plots before 26 March 1886.  The Burial Registers for this section prior to this date haven’t survived so the only record of the burials will be the transcriptions recorded from the gravestones. When completed we will add these to the current total.

Sunday 20 July

Arriving abt 10.30am

Weather prediction changing all the time at the moment
Will Update on the morning of the 20th whether we are cancelling

Hopefully though, another good day for uncovering gravestones

Also,  on Monday 14th July, Myself & Beannie were interviewed and recorded for BBC Radio Manchester about the Manchester General Cemetery,  I think possibly the reporter - Mat,  might need to do a lot editing, as personally I think I was hopeless!!  Beannie was much more relaxed.  Normally I can ramble on for hours about Our Cemetery, so I think I missed a lot of information out.

Quick update to our radio interview!

We have a piece on BBC Radio Manchester tomorrow morning Thursday 17th July between 7-9am and then it is repeated between 4-6pm and if we miss those we are available to listen to on the BBC iplayer
