is there any way of finding out the parents names without going into the records office in the Irish life mall in town.
I need to info fairly quickly and I can't get a free min to get in there.

...

all depends on the dates, location, and the other clues you have for the couple.

e.g. you can sometime use census returns, extracted births & marriages, parish records etc

to be certain of the correct father's names you usually need to order the cert to confirm a link.. i.e. from the occupations, place of residence etc. Mother's names are not included on civil certs.

what are the clues on your William - i.e. his father's name, names of siblings (e.g. your grandfather) ?

Have you found him and the other King family on the 1901 and/or 1911 census ?

p.s. your dates rule out the extracted civil and parish record search options.. too recent for these to work

from a previous topic :

Quote
Private William king 40776, 1st battalion, Northamptonshire regiment, aged 25 KIA 25 sept 1918, remembered with honour Vis-en-Artois memorial, France.

so he would be about 8 on the 1901 return... so possibly one of these ?

William King, c8 years old, Dublin, 1901

Is this them in 1911 ?  Confirmed, it's same family via CWGC record

  King household, Terenure

if so, you can narrow your date range to between 1911 and 1918... unfortunately means we are out of sources to try, as any marriage was after the 1911 census.

Think a marriage cert is the only way to go.... unless he had any children ?

Yes that's them.  I know nothing about him apart from his military service. No other family info regarding him.

probably just have to try the certs then and see if any show the correct father's details.

I'd try the South Dublin certs first...  although marriages took place in the bride's parish, so depending on where she was from, you might have to widen out the search to adjacent districts - i.e. Dublin North and Rathdown.
