Anyone visiting the NAS Edinburgh?
« on: Friday 22 February 13 20:21 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Wondering if anyone who is visiting the NAS would be so kind and do a look up for me.  I have full details of the file number etc.,  I am not requiring a copy of the file, just the names listed.
Thanking you
Bonnie from Sydney
PS Happy to, in exchange, do a look up at the Archives NSW or State Library

Susan,  Many thanks for your offer to do a look up at the NAS.    The following is the list of documents regarding the Estate of a Georgina Janet Campbell (a spinster) who died at Edinburgh on 25 Sep 1897.
The one that I am interested in is lighted in RED

][/color]  My great grandfather was William Hodgson Campbell born 1875 and he had brothers Peter and Colin John, who were all living in Australia when Georgina died.

To give you some background, I have found that Georgina Janet (born 1837 Edinburgh) parents were Peter Campbell (a solicitor in Edinburgh) and Isabella nee Malcolm who was born in England, father George (a Merchant), who married in 1825.  But I haven't been able to work out how they connect with my ggf who, like his brother Peter were born at Kirkdale, Lancs., and they came with parents, John Campbell born Campbeltown, Argyll. in 1841 and Amelia Hodgson born Liverpool, to Australia in 1875.  Colin born here in 1879.

I have found so far, that Georgina was the last of her siblings to died and that it appears that none of them had any children but not 100% sure on this point.

The reason I would like to know the contents of this files is that I am hoping that the document will show what family connection Georgina (and parents) had with my ggf.  I have hit a brick wall as to who William's grandfather, also named John and supposedly born at Carradale,  Argyll. in about 1819, as to who his parents were.

Thank you so much Susan, it is very much appreciated and please let me know if you need anymore info.
Kind regards Bonnie

Bonnie, bad news! The one you particularly wanted to see has been 're-transmitted' this means, i think, returned to the court from where it came? The archive attendants think this could have been years ago!
Not sure on where to best advise you turn next?
Leave it with me till the end of the week and hopefully i can find something out!
