Children of Joseph CANTER, Malmesbury

Hi,

Looking for baptisms and/or burials of any children of Joseph Canter (described as a Yeoman/Landed Proprietor of West Heath & St Mary Westport, Malmesbury) and his wife Mary Ody.
They marr at St Paul’s Malmesbury on 30/1 or 4/2/1836. I can only find evidence of 1 child, Mary Jane, who was born Malmesbury 1846. Would like to find others if they had any 1836-46 or after 1846.

just had a scout around.....    only seeing your Mary J Canter on the Wilts BMD , then I see a Canter family being one of my Canter / Shergold marryins ....

so I firmly believe there may only be one child for that marriage....

I kinda susspected that mary jane might be their only child, but she was born 10 years after their marriage and I has have no access to Malmesbury records up here in Edinburgh, I thought Rootschat was my best bet to get that checked out. I hadn't seen anything on FreeBMD site either.

Marriage write up for Mary Jane
"April 21, at the Abbey Church, malmesbury, Henry Alexander, third son of John Neek, esq. of Lancaster Terrace. Regent's Park, to Mary jane, only child of Joseph Canter, esq., of the Abbey Row, Malmesbury"

So there you have it - "only child"!

Do you still use the same email you did in 2010 when I emailed you some ODY stuff? Let me know & I'll send you screen shots of the newpaper stuff I found (includes Josephs wifes death notice).

Hi again vazzycat,

Had a bit of a break from family research since Jan 2012 as studying again (Social Work degree) as a (very!!!) mature student.
Trying to do some family stuff again as some relief from studying and writing.
Many thanks for the marriage ref. from the newspapers. So that proved they had a 10 year childless gap before having Mary Jane.
Yes, I'm still using the same e-mail address as before and I would love to see the newspaper stuff you found.
