Louise M. Holme, O.B.E.
« on: Wednesday 20 February 13 20:07 GMT (UK) »
I have a problem researching the above lady. The only information that I have so far come up with is that she was born in Ambleside, Cumbria – Her parents were John and Mary Holme – she was a Worker in the Queen Mary’s Army Auxiliary Corps during the First World War – She died on 19th May 1920 and is buried in Holy Trinity Churchyard, Crook, Winster, Cumbria.

The two primary problems that I have are =

(1)   Her grave has an official Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstone suggesting that she died as result of a war service cause 18 months after the end of the war. I have not yet speculated on a Death Certificate as I feel that this may only quote cause of death as “Due to war operations”, but I may have to take that chance.

      (2) For what purpose would this lady. a Worker (equivalent to an army Private), be
awarded an Order of the British Empire? Her name does not appear in the London
Gazette also the Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood has no record of this lady
receiving any award. The reason for an award of the O.B.E. could give the answer
to the cause of her death.

I would be most grateful if anybody can offer any suggestions that may open a new research path.

Tony

I'm using Chrome and having no bother (just got someone else to check and they can also view the pages). Try using Google- "Louise Holme" & "Queen Mary’s Army Auxiliary Corps"
