Looking for relatives of Wisdom Smith (Headington Quarry)

Hello Everyone,

My name is Sophie and I am trying to find any other relatives of Wisdom Smith & I know there are A LOT!

I am related to the Smith's through my Mother's side and Jemima Smith is my Great-Great Grandmother and Wisdom Smith is my Great-Great-Great Grandfather, which makes me 1/16th Romany gypsy.

My Mum lived in the quarry as a child and married my Dad in Trinity Church, Headington Quarry.

I would love to hear from any other relatives and see if we can tie up any loose ends.

Wisdom Smith to Priscilla Bagley Headington  3a 587 - this Wisdom was born in 1823 Short Hampton Oxfordshire

Marriages December qtr 1875 
Wisdom Smith to Harriet Tolley    Headington  3a 1109    - this Wisdom was born 1852 Charlton Oxfordshire and was the son of the above Wisdom.  Priscilla appears to be his second wife

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, Priscilla was his second wife & Jemima a subsequent child from this marriage.

My mum has done a lot of research into the Smith family & have traced it back to Thomas Smith in the 1760/1770's in Brailes, Northants.

As there were so many Smiths, thought it'd be interesting to see where the relatives had ended up.

My family lived in the quarry until the early 90's & then moved away.

Those with an interest in the Headington Quarry Gypsies might be interested to know that Keith Chandler will be giving a talk on Saturday May 10th about the community who lived and worked in the area in the 19th and early 20th centuries and regularly provided music for feasts, festivals and the Headington Quarry Morris Dancers.

Hi my sons side (on his dads side) are the Headington Smiths. Masses of them lol. I have a big tree if you're interested. I was thinking of starting a Facebook page for the descendents of the Smiths, would anyone be interested? Im Romany gypsy from my own fathers side too, so we rokker the jib and go to the horse fairs.
