Hello
Does anyone know the official time you had to register a birth in the 1960's ? was it within 6 months or longer? I'm not sure if its the same as today but I believe you have to register a childs birth within 6-12 months?

The relevant Act is the
Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953.
Although Part I Section 2 states that information concerning birth has to be given to registrar within forty–two days, Part I Section 6 covers Registration between three and twelve months from date of birth, and Part I Section 7 Registration after twelve months from date of birth.

I agree with dawnsh. My son shows up as registered 4 years later than his birth but that was because I had to re-register him when I married his father - the original earlier doesn't show up in searches so could well be the reason or something similar as your birth query

Actually I just did a check after answering you and both my sons birth regs appear on Ancestry but only the later one on FindMyPast.
Have you tried a forename and mothers maiden name - leaving the surname blank - for the year/place of birth check?
