« on: Tuesday 19 February 13 21:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I am trying to trace my Gt., Gt., Grandmother's parents.

My gt gt grandmother was Sarah Elizabeth Mooney, born in 1834 in Nova Scotia, Canada.
My gt gt grandfather was Thomas Edgar, born in 1826 in Dumfries, Scotland

Thomas Edgar wed Sarah E Mooney  in 1860 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, they went on to have 8 children.
These children were:-

Sarah Ann Edgar, b 1876 in Mass, USA.
James M Edgar,  b 1872, Mass, USA.
William Edgar, b 1870, Mass, USA.
Joseph Edgar, b 1867, Mass, USA.
Charles R Edgar, b 1864, Mass, USA.
Nellie M Edgar, b 1858, Maine, USA.
John w Edgar, b 1855, Maine, USA.
Annie Heater Edgar, b 1863, Mass, USA & d abt 1940, Arlington, MA, USA.

This much I know.
The thing I don't know is Sarah E Mooney's parents, I can find no info anywhere, so any help would be much appreciated.
Thankyou,
Roo

No proof that Sarah belonged to this group of Mooney because the daughters are un-named but could be worth investigating  ???

If information is correct, then it's unlikely-
"Three Unnamed daughters
Born in Antrim, Ireland
Moved to Omaha, Nebraska"

John and Sarah are in the household of Thos. and Sarah E. Edgar on the 1870 US census for Boston, Mass.
John is 80 born Ireland and Sarah 68 b. New Brunswick.

an online family tree shows John Mooney died. 03 Nov 1870 Boston and Sarah Hayter Mooney died 1870 Boston b. 1802 N.B.

Massachusetts BMD records show John Mooney did die on the date above and was born in Ireland.  Sarah's death was 25 Nov 1873 with a place of birth of St. Johns N.B. and parents born England.  No maiden name given.

both buried Woodlawn

Parents and siblings of Sarah Hayter (wife of John Mooney) John Hayter & Mary Monk listed here:-

http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/CAN-NB-KINGS/2000-04/0954943028

Although this link says Sarah Hayter was born 1785 so does not match  ???  ???

http://records.ancestry.com.au/John_Hayter_records.ashx?pid=2509023

John Hayter was  Capt. John Hayter Birth 1762 in Plymouth, Devon, England   died 28 Dec 1825 in  Grand Bay, Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada.

http://archives.gnb.ca/Archives/?culture=en-CA
Provincial Archives of New Brunswick

Under the Search column

Wallace Hale's Early New Brunswick Probate 1785-1835
put in Hayter, John
Will for John Hayter with wife Mary
Will for Mary Hayter 1827-04-09
includes names of her children and Sarah married to John Mooney is one of them

Newspaper Vital Statistics - Daniel F. Johnson
go to H, then to Hayter and enter John or Mary

John Hayter, July 15, 1818
Est. John Hayter, Westfield,Kings Co., Admin Mary Hayter, Hugh Johnston 22 June

John Hayter, Jan 17, 1826
d. Saint John, Wednesday night, Mary Hayter, widow of late John Hayter, Kings Co., formerly of Woolwich, England, age 63

Using the names on the wills, you may be able to find other information in the Newspaper Vital Stats.

I would say that this is definitely the parents of Sarah Hayter who married John Mooney.
Looks like your line may be
John Hayter and Mary Monk
John Mooney and Sarah Hayter
Thomas Edgar and Sarah Elizabeth Mooney

Hope this helps.
