St lawrence & St John, Southampton
« on: Monday 18 February 13 12:28 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone able to help me with a look up please? I have a marriage for my Gt Gt Gt Grandparents, John Barnes & Frances Lewis, 24 Sep 1828 at St Lawrence & St John, wondering if John Barnes may have been baptised at the same church in 1803/4.

A John Barnes was baptised at St Mary's in Southampton 28 Aug 1803, son of Joseph & Elizabeth.  No way of knowing if he is the same John Barnes who married in 1828  :-\

However, no other candidates baptised in Southampton at this time.  One in South Stoneham and another in North Stoneham.

Thanks Nell. "St Mary's" Seems to arise a lot through the tree so this looks good. I guess the next thing is to look for a marriage. I have a strong feeling that his Mother's maiden name may have been Mowatt. His issue tend to have family related middle names.

If this is the couple you are looking for, then they also had the following:

Joseph bpt 16 Jun 1788
Elizabeth bap 12 Oct 1789
William bpt 1 Jun 1801
Thomas  bpt 27 Dec 1805

all baptised at St Mary's.

I think these are also theirs:

James bp 29 Jul 1792
Sarah bp 18 Jun 1794
Mary bp 30 Sep 1798

recorded as BARNS, at Millbrook.

I think this may be the marriage:

Joseph Barnes married Elizabeth Lambert 5 Aug 1787 at Holy Rood, Southampton

Sorry - couldn't oblige with Mowatt!   ;)
