Dear aunty P,we believe that he was born in 1870,but it could be a year or two either way,as the censuses in Wales often give conflicting birthyears,Thank you for your interest,Bethan

Hi Bethan

I have a couple of George Davies that could be "maybes" .... the younger one is with a family - the older one says he's from Lancashire but Liverpool -  the point of departure is in Lancashire .... ::) so what do you think?

Name             George Davies
Arrival            10 May 1892
Age                21 years
Birth              1871
Departure       Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland
Ship               Samaria
Port entry       Boston, Massachusetts
Last Residence Lancashire

Name              George Davies
Arrival             15 Sep 1884
Birth               1876
Age                 8
Departure       Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland
Place of birth  Wales
Ship               England
Port of entry   New York

Looks like the mother is Anne Davies and 5 siblings!

Thanks a lot for your interest Aunty P,I do not think either one is my George,as he emigrated in 1887 and I think he would have put Wales down as his place of birth,as he was a Welsh speaker,Thank you anyway for your effort it was really kind of you to look,Regards Bethan

Bethan,

I can't take the credit for teh two possibilites mentioned previously - they were sent to you by someone else.  But, as I have searched ships passenger lists, I found something to share with you.  Not a George Davies, but some members of a Davies family who emigrated in 1887 from Wales - so perhaps there is some connection.  This is what I found:
**********************************************
Steamship Lord Clive
Passenger List of Steamship Lord Clive from Liverpool Arrived July 5th 1887 in the Port of Philadelphia

Transcriber's Family passengers #93-101 Davies
This manifest was generously donated by Nancy Watson.  Her great grandmother on the list is Jeanette Davies age 11 years, although Nancy knows she was 13 years old at the time she came to this country.
While the manifest indicates that her Davies ancestors were from
England, they were really from Merthyr Tydfil, Wales.  If you have a connection to this family, please contact Nancy. (hughw1@nauticom.net)

93  Davies      M         40 M  England   England    Lab     No
94  Davies      Ann       37 F  England   England    Wife    No
95  Davies      Jane      18 F  England   England    Spin    No
96  Davies      Lizzie    16 F  England   England    Spin    No

98  Davies      Carrie     6 F  England   England    Child   No

100 Davies      Morgan     2 M  England   England    Child   No
101 Davies      David    Inf M  England   England    Infant  No

I will continue the search.

Dear aunty P,thank you so much for your help, sorry that I made a mistake,I should have thanked Liverpool Annie for the previous reply,I typed it out last Sunday morning after I had been out to celebrate my anniversary the night before,I am afraid that I was a little hung over.
Unfortunately this is not George Davies family, although we do think that a lot of his family emigrated with him,he had brothers John@1852,David@1854,William@1859,Thomas@1863, there were also 3 sisters,Thank you so much for your interest and effort,Bethan
