Three ships sailed to New Zealand in 1840.
« on: Sunday 17 February 13 14:23 GMT (UK) »
I have a person who sailed with her parents aboard the ship "Bengal Merchant", arriving in Wellington in 1840. (Date not known.)

I have now found out that this ship sailed from Glasgow on 30 October 1839 with 160 passengers and arrived at Port Nicholson, New Zealand on 20 February 1840. Was this the only journey made in 1839/1840?

~~~~~~~~--------------------
William JUDD (Junior) (s/o William JUDD) arrived at Wellington as a 16 year-old per the ship "Bolton" on 30 April 1840.
William Judd Sr., accompanied by his second wife Ann, and their 3 younger children, came to Wellington (per the "Martha Ridgeway" some 6 months later, 14 November 1840.
Can you say where these ships sailed from and if there are passenger lists available?
Thanks in advance for looking for me,
Muffin41 :)
I take it you saw the info on the Judd family at the bottom of the Bolton list.
Since found your other thread which has the above info on it.
I have a Martha Bassett in my tree married (1871) to  James Judd in Lower Hutt area. No more details than that.
re Martha Bassett whose parents William and Mary arrived on the Duke of Roxburgh on7 or 8 February 1840.
A reunion to celebrate the family's 175 years in NZ is being planned for mid March next year, 2015.
